Negative Effects of Rap Music on the Youth
(Tangaza College, 2009) Macharia, Charlene Njeri
This final project (essay) is intended to create awareness on the effects rap music has on the youth. Most of the youth nowadays listen to rap music and I want them to see how this is affecting their lives and how they relate to the world around them. Rap music has very many negative effects. I will look at both rap music and rap musicians trying to compare their private lives and what they sing about and see if there is a similarity. This essay investigates the negative effects and how they affect the youth. I want to find out if the youth know of these effects and what can be done to try curb them. The first part of the research was conducted in Ngumo, which is a middle-class estate in Nairobi and focused on the youth living there of both genders between the ages of 16 and 28. The second part of the research was done randomly because it was intended to find out the reaction of the youth to a radio program focusing on rap. This program is for the youth and by the youth. It will focus on rap music and rap musicians. The program will have guests who have authority on rap music and who can give advice to the youth on how to ensure rap does not affect their lives negatively. This program will be aired in the radio station that the youth like the most and this will be determined through research.
