    Initiation among Abagusii

    The study at hand is an investigation into the importance of initiation as a rite of passage among the Abagusii of Western Kenya and its challenge for the Church today. The major focus of this study is: [a] To ascertain social, religious and cultural/traditional attitudes towards initiation, [b] To determine the prevalence and continuation of the practice of initiation (circumcision/ clitoridectomy) among the Abagusii, [c] To identify ways in which initiation may be detrimental to health, [d] To propose possible approaches towards achieving maintenance of positive aspects of initiation [e] To enlighten the Church on the significance of initiation among Abagusii [f] To bring out the lesson the church of today can learn from this cultural practice and to determine its relevance for today.
