Item Tangaza Vision(Fed Up With Inculturation Talk!)(Tangaza University College, 1993) Tangaza University CollegeWe have been friends=that is what I most think about as I clean my office, answer phone calls, greet visitors these days dropping by. We have been friends .... May 18th 1988 Fr. Luciano Odorico, SDB, the second rector of Tangaza showed me the rector's office, room A 10, at Tangaza. He handed me the keys to the door and said, "I haven't really used it yet, you see it has only a desk in it" --it was a bare room otherwise. Then he showed me the Constitutions of Tangaza, the section on the rector, article 4.55: "it shall be the duty of the rector to maintain unity and harmony of purpose ... " "This is the4 most important thing you have to do," Fr. Odorico V said. "Unity and harmony of purpose"--"He is to see to it that all departments are operated efficiently and according to proper academic and educational standards [art. 4.l]." So the Constitutions say. They don't say much how you are supposed to do all that--"maintain unity and harmony of purpose" ... make sure "all departments are operated efficiently and according to proper standards." How? How? I was eight months in Africa, eight months a missionary. What did I know. So I thought, maybe start by making friends with those who know something. Try to make everyone feel at home, so they can share what they have, share who they are. Maybe something good will happen ... And so I tried ... we tried. To make a friend, start by being a friend--not judging or criticizing, but visiting, asking, listening. And so our friendship grew. So we grew to gether. We did not always agree. It is easy for strangers to agree--the agreeableness of conventional politeness and conformity is easier for mere acquaintances and fellow travellers than it is for friends. Social amenity is easy when you share nothing of any importance. For friends it is another matter indeed. It would be easier to agree if we all shared a common culture, a common tongue; common customs. But how· could we ever agree if we cannot even begin to understand one another.Item Tangaza Vision(Is God a Bully)(Tangaza University College, 1994) Tangaza University CollegeHaving been given new areas of work, many a people do have a lot of new ideas which they would like to have executed. Once such ideas are met with a cold response, many give up. It is always interesting seeing someone assuming his/her new responsibility in an office or establishment. He/she in most cases, has many ideas, to change the place and make it look even better than before. The person will try to execute most of the new plans just to make sure that goals are achieved. . LLt A newly ordained priest, for instance, will try t ' commit himself fully to his first appointment. Working hard with the people to whom he has been sent to serve. Pastorally, he will have his day timetabled. He will have his morning prayers and the celebration of the Eucharist. He will visit the sick, prisoners, and people in their respective homes and do some parish work in the office as per schedule. In his homilies, he will sound holy using many Theological jargons while expecting to change people in a day or two. He will as well, try to see to it that the Par ish/house compound is clean, the flowers are carefully arranged and well maintained, books are well and intelligently arranged on the shelves (if any), just to mention but a few. Once things and all the expectations he had are watered down and people seem to care Jess, when things don't turn up as planned, when he does not seem to see the fruits of his labor, he gets discouraged and he easily thinks of something else. It is at such a juncture that the hard core which was in him, which made him think that he would have great success in life, that he could beat the best, un willingly and suddenly turns "soft". Should such a priest quit? This is but a little challenge in life. It is not always a few faint wishes, but a life-long struggle that makes us valiant. Such is life. It is always a challenge - meet it.Item Tangaza Update(Sports day)(Tangaza University College, 2005-02) Tangaza University CollegeA total of twelve teams from 16 re ligious communities participated in the vol leyball tournament. For the citizens, this is always a long awaited moment to democratically exercise our political right. ·'''· We will decide who takes over the 'flag' within the next A'e months. It is the most challenging and tempting period for us 'Wistians as true believers and al the same time 'politicians'. Diversity Our institution is blessed with variety of persons from all walks of the life and all corners of the world. We Kenyans kindly calls upon their moral and ethical support at this hour of need. When we were baptized, we signed irrevocable contract with Jesus; a contract which strongly bides us to continuous fighting of justice and promotion of peace in the whole world. We ore called in different ways to be full partakers of this noble exercise in relation to our different daily activities Ready for the big bath? The biggest question to all Kenyans and other people of good will especially Christian is 'how have we prepared ourselves towards the forthcoming general election? Do we still subscribe to the distorted ideology that, 'politics is a dirty game and this is the time of social/civil disorder and massive chaos and thus this should be left to our politicians? to us Kenyans and all people of good will to participate To us, we should take this as the biggest gift God hosi' and willingly in making informed decisions on where we wont our world to be as responsible and official stewards whom God commissioned to take care of His creations both living and non living.Item Tangaza Update(College Administration opts)(Tangaza University College, 2008) Tangaza University CollegeMembers of the Tangaza College Administration met at Dimesse Sisters Cenhe (Karen) on Friday 2^d September 2005 in the aftemoon, determined to look a the tradihon of Sharing Days of the Administration which have become the College Calendar Septenber 2005 a character of once every semester' The incumbents have decided to continue with the tradition with some modifications Greatly appreciated was the Uarrtic" Scheppers, Presence among them of Fr' O. Today the use of media is a standard pedagogical tool for providing information about topical issues that affect human life, through a variety of different media sources such as books news papers, websites, instructional videos television among others. People are enriched with both positively as well as negatively through the media. The use of print media however, conveys a more rich and educative heritage. It gives a more enriching, analyzed and critical information that is transformative to both the writer and reader. Generally, print media bui Ids the reading, comprehension skills and sharpens the critical skills towards the different sources of information and realities that bombard us. Tangaza College, as an institution of higher learning gives us an opportunity to share our rich and diverse experiences; and educate each other based on its unique composition and mission; to be light and salt of world. The SEMA Magazine puts together comprehensive wisdom that is educative to develop and prepare the students to go and transform the world.Yes one intellectual giant once said "better late than never", you and I have this special mission to get out and make a different in the hostile 'man-eat-man society.'We must not dance the already set tune but rather tune a friendly and danceable tune of harmony, peace, justice and development. Why not? We can make it. Yes we can! The Chinese have an educative saying that has always posed a challenge to me, "never complain of darkness, but dispel the darkness by lighting a candle" As many of us receive the certificates and diplomas, we have been empowered to go and make a difference in the society, by humbling ourselves to serve our brothers and sisters. Let our candles light integrity as we respond to what God requires ofus in the ministry, "Only to do what is right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God" (Micah 6: 8). He will guide us up to the end.Item Sema (The Planet-t Experience)(Tangaza University College, 2009) Tangaza University CollegeTangaza College takes pride in providing quality tertiary education. Various institutes in Tangaza are clear indications of the college's yearn to harmonize the secular world by encouraging service to others with the love of Christ. From all the institutes, it can be derived from those that have graduated from them, that indeed there is a big impact in the society ln fulfilling her mission, Tangaza college not only caters for her immediate family but opens up to embrace our other brothers and sisters who are disadvantaged in the society. Let's all then take pride in our Tangaza, as we continue learning the valuable lessons in lile not forgetting external factors in our country and the world at large. Going back to year 2008, we experienced a new dawn, after the country was rocked by post election violence. However, the signing of the peace deal between President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga' sparked a ray of hope for a better future to most Kenyans' while others were skeptic whether it was One going to work' year down the line, a lot is yet to be desired, with the Country's economy deteriorating, scandal after scandal, poverty, violence, star- vation and too much talking with no actions. Look at the world at large. Still, similar Problems. Maybe its time that we all came together in creating a new world. A world free ol injustice, inequality, violence and poverty. Some events become bygone history while others become a living history. But the fact that some events leave behind memorable traces, is yet another .timely truth. Such was the 2006/2007 Tangazo inaugural moss that took place on the 21 th Aug, 2006. Someone would rightly claim "this was just like any other Ton gaza annual event!" Sure it was! But I believe there ore some aspects of lru~h in what the author of Animal Form claims, "oil animals ore equal but some ore more equal than others". This could apply to events like the one we describe here. The day was graced by a bright sunlight since we hove not had that kind of sunny day since about two months. By 8.00am, students from various institutes begun to arrive. Yes, oil looked cheerful; indeed it was a meeting ofter a long break. Indeed the inaugural function began with exchange of news and views from all corners of the world. To the first years especially myself, everybody seem familiar at a point, and. this mode me to. tell myself that Tangozo will surely be a home for me in the next 4 years, keeping in mind the words of the DPA, "study and socialize in Tangaza". The apex of the day wcs the Holy Eucharist, by 8.30 om the procession of more than 30 priests approached the altar. Fr Tim Redmond the Principal welcomed Fr.Maurice Schepers, 0.P the Chairperson of the Board of Governors, who was the main celebrant. Everything was really well prepared, thanks to the school choir. Their melodious songs were lively and added life to the hole liturgy. The student body also participated very well in the whole celebration. At the end of the celebration many headed towards their various classes to catch the first lesson of the year which began by 1 0.35orn. Fist impression they say, lasts longer, and the good impression I got the first day will linger in me. There is a common saying "leave the place better than you hove found it" this is my wish for you. The second wish is to leave a legacy behind' Robert Sharma in his book "who will cry when you die" expresses more beautifully "when you were born you cried while the rest of the world rejoiced, live your life in such a way that when you die you will rejoice while the world cry. May all who dwell here become proclaimers of the mystery of faith.Item Tangaza Update(October 2005)(Tangaza University College, 2005-10) Tangaza University Collegehe College Principal has undertaken to meet all the students in Institute or class groups in order to present himself and offer his availability to the students In a more comprehensible and credible way In these smaller units of the students' body. Truly, truly, it was the beginning of big things to come. So, the time of the inter communities football tournament and the inter-institutes athletics showed their heads ... they were to begin on the 8th of September and the l] th of September respectively. Though the inter-institutes athletics was to take place after the beginning of the inter communities football tournament my errnrgy was being consumed • by inter institutes athletics since it was the first of its kind in Tangaza and you may or not agree with me but the birth of anything is not that easy, of which this was no exception. Almost everything was new. The 0-day for the athletics arrived and a new tradition was given birth to in the history of Tangaza.
