Jesus Christ: Empowerment of The Oppressed In Search for Liberation Southern Sudan Perspective
(Tangaza University College, 2003) Habakuk, Dominic Juma
The words "oppression-struggle-liberation-freedom" have become some of the much spoken words in our world, particularly in Sudan. They echo cries of despair of a people who yearn for freedom, justice and peace. However, God's promises of liberation — the exodus and the liberating acts of Yahweh which achieve their full meaning in Jesus Christ — are foundations of hope from which victims of oppression get their courage and strength to determinedly and efficiently work for liberation as the building of God's Kingdom. Liberation, in this context, is a biblical language, that is, Yahweh who heard the groaning of his oppressed people in Egypt always hears and takes side with the oppressed of every age, space and race. He is a liberator, redeemer and savior who, with his mighty hand and in great love, brought his people Israel out of the house of bondage to prepare them for himself. Whenever they strayed from him and fell victim to oppression, Yahweh always freed them. Finally, Yahweh sent his only Son — - the Messiah, liberator par excellence — to free humanity from all forms of evil. In these events dwells all hope for liberation. The Old and the New Testament are an account of God's liberating acts of love on behalf of the poor and the oppressed.

Women as Custodians of Continuos Creation and Their Holistic Empowerment a Case Study of Oldonyiro Women Group
(Tangaza University College, 2001-03) Achieng Origa, Vincentia
Real development is only realised when it addresses the very needs of the people. Kenya like any other contemporary society undergoes many changes from all aspects of life that is economical, political, social, cultural and religious changes. All these affect women in one way or another. This study is based on Samburu women in Oldonyiro Division. The study seeks first to get the information from the Samburu community especially the women through questioner about the hash climate, cultural background of the Samburu people, their nomadic kind of life, occurrence of draughts, banditry or insecurity, economic problems, illiteracy and the poor attitude of the Samburu people. All these factors have hindered development in Samburu land in the past. Therefore, the researcher together with the community suggests other alternatives that will help eradicate these negative factors. The community would do this by initiating income-generating projects to improve the economy, improve the environment by planting trees, encouraging the government to enforce both formal and informal education, step up security in the area, helping the Samburu people to seek alternatives concerning their nomadic life, and some of their culture and their attitude towards life. All these factors have hindered development in the area for many years. Therefore, the women of Oldonyiro Parish have taken it upon themselves to embark on the development that would answer their very needs. They do this by initiating icome-generating projects in order to he self-reliant, and improving the environment by planting trees. They have planned to be the pioneers in initiating the informal education for themselves through seminars and workshops. They Vdould like to encourage the government to reinforce formal education especially to the girl-child who because of bad cultural practises have been left behind almost in every thing. This has jeopardised the equality between men and women in Samburu land and as a result the women have never been part of the decision making with the elders of the community. The earth is our common heritage, upon which our future development relies. Sustainable development will be achieved only if humankind accept the unique contribution of women and men as equal partners with a shared responsibility for the care of planet. Although both genders are equally dependent on the capacities of ecosystems, men and women's perception of the human relationship with nature are governed by tradition and their different gender related roles. Traditional rural women especially in Samburu land are nearer to nature than men. They almost have total dependency on the environment and therefore have realised that true development would not be achieved unless the environment is enhanced as this will enforce other kind of development in the area.

An Analysis on Empowerment of Women in Githunguri, Kambaa and Miguta Parishes in Kiambu
(Tangaza University College, 2001-02) Mungai, George Njoroge
In the contemporary world where every sphere of human life is advancing to a great height, the issue of gender equality and fair treatment is among the issues discussed. For a long time women have been considered and taken as the second sex, weaker sex, the second class human beings. They have been neglected, oppressed, discriminated against, ridiculed, abused and above all their presence and contribution in the development process has been underrated. In post-independent Africa, especially in the last three decades, many voices are raised in defence and uplifting of women. There is a realisation that women have a high potential and that their place in the society is equal to that of their male counterparts if not even better. This has caused an explosion of liberation theories and practicalities that geared to raising the status-quo of women. Different countries, cultures and localities have come up with strategies of empowering women. Much effort has been put into this issue, but much is yet to be done, and to be achieved. In Kenya, issues concerning women have been mostly addressed and effected in urban areas while the rural women in many cases have remained in the same situation. It is the rural women that this study will concentrate on, trying to investigate their education, economical, political, cultural, and religious status and the extent of their empowerment. Muriithi observes that: The proper empowerment of these women that we hope will be effected gradually; will witness a tremendous revolution for the better of the present women and men.

    Empowerment of Women In Kenya
(Tangaza University College, 1998-04) Kamara, Simon Muriithi
Women have been discriminated and their rights have been violated since time immemorial. They have been overlooked by the male chauvenism and the traditional cultures. These two aspects have contributed a lot to the humiliation of women to a great extent. Some view woman as second class human beings, who should always be under the 'umbrella of a man'. In this Essay, I will suggest how women in Kenya can be empowered. Though women should be empowered in all spheres of life, I will concentrate on the following spheres: political and legal, economic, health and educational. In the first chapter I shall try to portray the status of women in connection with the above spheres. The second chapter is intended to elaborate the main reasons as to why women are in those positions they are in the society. In the third chapter, I will suggest how women can be empowered in political and legal, economic, health and educational spheres. Then I will also propose Gender Responsive Education as one of the most important aspects which, I feel, can enhance women empowerment in the society, if at all it is put into practice. In this long Essay I will apply the See-Judge-Act methodology which I believe is an appropriate and recommendable approach for social ministries in mission. Before embarking on what I am intending to elaborate concerning the empowerment of women in Kenya, I would like to clarify some of the relevant terminologies which I believe they are relevant to the Essay, namely empowerment and women.
