Item Marriage And Family Among The Akambas(Tangaza University College, 2003) Natal, AntonioI will focus this study on traditional marriage among the Akamba people, without, of course, ignoring their today's society. I will dwell more on the traditional customs, which are more typical to this group, which explains in a great deal their experience and concept of marriage. I chose Marriage, because it an institution that plays a central place among the Akamba, as well as in many other African societies. Unfortunately, many young people especially those who happened to live out of their traditional society find themselves in married life without a minimum of preparation for it, and at times with no idea of what marriage entails. Part of the reason maybe attributed to the breakdown of families, often caused by the social, economic and cultural pressures that contemporary life brings. I find this paper relevant to these situations, which are of common interest in our pastoral work. I will try to highlight some aspects in this field, and try to see how the Church would be relevant to them. In the same line, I will stress the virtues and strengths of the traditional Akamba family. I do believe that as I journey in this field, I will discover many other pertinent issues for pastoral concern. I will have a specific interest in the social factors underlying persistence of certain values, continuity and change, as they are appear in contemporary times. I will try to present the values, attitudes, functions and significance attached to traditional Akamba marriage. As mentioned above, I chose the Akamba ethnic group, as one of groups that would help me to understand what an African marriage is; of course, with respect for all shades of the difference that exist within various African communities. I will not pretend to deal with all the issues concerning marriage and family; my aim is therefore to cover the subject within a relatively limited area. Why Akamba? Because it is an ethnic group with whom I have shared and lived more than any other ethnic group in Kenya.Item The Effect of War in Family Displacement in Eritrea(Tangaza University College/Saint Mary university of Minnesota(Nairobi Campus), 2001-05) Abraha, ElsaThis study focuses on the effect of war and displacement on family life and property. The main objectives of the study are:- i) To investigate the effect of war in Eritrea on family displacement during the Ethiopian occupation. ii) To asses the impact of insecurity of war on family life, iii) To suggest possible solution to overcome the problem of insecurity. In order to achieve these objectives the researcher use primary and secondary Sources. For primary data collection, interview and questionnaire were used as instruments. Extensive library work was used as data collection instruments for secondary source. For the sampling technique the researcher used stratified random sampling. Displacement has a detrimental effect though shortage of Labour Power Pressure on land, poverty, poor infrastructure, loosing of culture values, violation of identity, Immorality, unemployment, problems with travel and oppressive politics against civilization. To solve the problem of family displacement, the causes of these problems must be addressed. Family displacement can only be solved through a meaningful peace between the two countries. This will create a sense of trust and understanding and enhance the capacity for people to develop their talents without fear of displacement.Item A Communication Strategy to Boost Interpersonal Communication Between Family Members.(Institute of Social Communication, 2010) Ndolo, Dorcas, WawudaHaving essential communication is necessary to having a happy family and thus a strong, happy society to live in. This is the main reason for writing this Thesis to create awareness about the consequences of TV consumption on interpersonal communication between family members. As derived from the research carried out in the Long Essay, it was evident that the TV has become a 'thief of family time'; it makes family home life almost impossible! If families are constantly made aware of the factors contributing to this social problem, it can help them guide and enhance their family's well being. It is a very significant concern because, on an individual level, family bonds are incredibly important and are the basis upon which is built a strong society. "The family is the setting that provides most of the early stimulation that is the basis for competent communication development."
