Abstract
The research is aimed at giving the definition of the word evangelization as a
tool for communication, though the print media such as the booklet. It will
investigate how women are evangellsers in Luke-Acts. It will also research their
relationship in Luke-Acts. The research will investigate how the good values found
in women in Luke-Acts can be used to liberate women in the Gusii community. The
research will state clearly how these good values can be employed in Small
Christian Communities in the Church to bring peaceful co-existence between men
and women. It will elaborate how women are oppressed in relation to socialisation
through language, proverbs, songs and others. The research will investigate how the
girl child is treated in the community and try to design . ways that can be used to
liberate her. The paper will demonstrate how wife inheritance has affected the
women in the Gusii community by giving relevant examples to reaffirm its position.
The paper will demonstrate how domestic violence is an issue not only to women
but also to men and children. The paper challenges the readers to respond positively
to the problems that will emerge with a critical mind. The research will give a cross
examination of some elders who belong to the Gusii community on some matters
like circumcision, illiteracy, property inheritance and others to state their position. It
will then employ a critical analysis on the whole issue and suggest some measures
that have to be taken to strike a balance that is relevant today. It will design the
methodology that is appropriate in transmitting the good -news to the village. The
research was carried out in Nyamira parish , Nyaisa village. Its aim was to know
how many people read Luke-Acts, and how often? How many people know Gusii
traditions and customs as oppressive for women? How many people know that the print media can solve their problems? The questions were asked at random, targeting
women, men, children, the youth and the aged. The number of people interviewed
was hundred and the percentage was calculated out of hundred. Out of the people
asked 25% said that they read Luke-Acts. 60% answered that Gusii traditions and
customs are oppressive for women and 15% answered that the print media solves
their problems. The research demonstrates that few people read Luke-Acts. The
reasons given were many do not have the bible. The bibles are expensive and
inaccessible. Some people do not know how to read and write. Some had other
reasons . The result revealed that women, men and the aged read Luke-Acts twice in
a week, in the church and in the small Christian community. Children and the Youth
read it three times in a week, in the church, in small Christian community and at
school. Many people knew that the Gusii traditions and customs are oppressive for
women but they do not know the right way to use. This is why there are many
criminal activities going on such as burning innocent people whom they suspect to
be thieves. Few people know the print media exists and it can solve their problems.
This also illustrates as to why many cases go unreported. Some of the questions
asked in the research have been given in the appendices plus the photograph of a
woman lighting a candle. The woman lighting a candle is a model for village women
to imitate and overcome their illiteracy. The paper will discuss all forms of
communication in brief, but it will give much weight to print media, such as the
booklet as the best means of communication in the villages.
