Abstract
Hospitality is a major interest of mine because I have a sense that my God is calling me to be a Brother of St. John of God, a member of the Order of Hospitallers. This Order is built on the vision of St John of God that Hospitality is the underlying passion of such brothers. I have read that “Spirituality is about the experiences and attitudes behind what he (Jesus) said and did, what fired him and inspired him (Nolan, Jesus Today, 2006. 21)." I need to explore the connection between Hospitality and Spirituality. If this is so then this value of hospitality must also be connected to my spirituality because for St. John of God it was the primary motivating force in his life. I have noticed also that this is a characteristic virtue of my cultural background. Hospitality is a major symbol for the nation of Senegal usually named “le pays de la teranga” meaning “country of hospitality”. This hospitality is lived everywhere in all corners of the country. Indeed, each ethnic group has its own way and manner of expressing its hospitality and transmitting it from generation to generation. Generally, hospitality in Senegal has a very broad definition due to the fact that there is an important mixture of cultures; which gives rise to a great sense of communion, sharing and openness towards others that extend even abroad. In fact, because of this communion, hospitality has always been a tradition for Senegalese people, and that is lived daily with pride. In particular, the special environment of Boubane, hospitality represents the centrality of each person's daily life. Boubane is a small village located in the region of Fatick found in the center
