| dc.description.abstract | The phenomenon of single motherhood is today a great reality to reckon with. These days, a family is hardly to be found (in the extended sense) that does not have a case of it, whatever type it may be. We are reminded, day in and out, that the phenomenon keeps rising. The reality of the phenomenon can therefore, just not be brushed aside. The Church, in a particular way, is called upon to prove herself helpful in her ministry in the face of this reality. It is in the light of this that a study such as this, becomes necessary for the Church and all pastoral personnel involved in working on this issue or with the single mothers. The study that unfolds in the next few pages will be found useful in the way that it has been carried out. There is enough of literature review, highlighting the various implications of the single motherhood phenomenon. Data collected locally by the researcher have been analyzed to illustrate the various points connected with the phenomenon. Recommendations have been given in the line of bringing a light of hope in this situation, especially, for the future ministry, suggestions which may need to be undertaken to give us a deeper understanding of the phenomenon and attending to the demands that it will require of us.
