Abstract

The research was carried out to investigate causes of students dropping out from secondary school in Nairobi. The research was carried out in Nairobi East-lands area. The objectives of the research were; to identify causes of students dropping out from secondary schools and to highlight some possible solutions that can help to curb the problem of students dropping out from secondary school. In order to carry out the research, the writer collected data using questionnaires, interviews and library reading. The research findings revealed that lack of financial support is the main cause why students drop out of school. The research findings also revealed other causes for example; teenage pregnancy, peer pressure, drug abuse, indiscipline, broken families, poor academic performance/repeating classes, mistreatment by teachers, and early/forced marriages. iv
