Item Radio Drama as a Tool for Sensitizing People On Social Issues(Institute of Social Communication, 2010) Gachanja, Lilies, WanjikuThis study discusses the use of radio drama as a tool for sensitizing people on social issues. The researcher will find out how radio drama is currently used and come up with suggestions on practical ideas for the use of radio drama to open up the audience to practical solutions to various happenings around them rather than theoretic reporting. Radio has picked up as traditional media systems are being discarded.' In the African context, media is seen as always right, which is not always the case. Radio drama, which is fictional, can seem like factual and it is good for the producer of the drama to inform the audience of the reality of or the lack of it in the drama. With the coming of the mobile technology, radio listening has been extended to everyone who has access to such mobile phones thus radio dramas can infiltrate society to form opinions on certain ideas.Item Improving the Development of Self-Esteem in Children Of The Ages 10-15 Years through Radio(2010) Wesonga, Eunice, KhayereImproving self esteem generally is a person's decision; the person has to first accept that he or she is suffering from low esteem. Without accepting, any efforts of improving low esteem will be of no good since the acceptance is not internal rather, this would feel as a force from outside which forces change in an individual. With this, there is no commitment whatsoever because the change being implemented is not from within and therefore the individual feels that the change of overcoming is for somebody else and not for the affected and who is in need of help. 'Self esteem is the disposition to experience oneself as competent to cope with basic challenges of life and as worth of happiness. Agreeing to this statement, I would say that we human beings, we determine our own happiness by creating it within us. A person with low esteem will not easily find this happiness since he or she always has something that will pull them down. This is either by; thinking they are not good enough for success, seeing themselves as failures when they are not, being afraid to try something new that will make them feel better and by fear of what people will say if they try to do something.Item Ethnicity as Stepping Stone to Genuine Peace(2010) Onyango, Noelle, AtienoThe main objective for this research was to determine whether people in Kenya still have some faith in the media, radio to be very specific. My hypothesis was that many people still rely on the media for information. It is a fact that radio has been used to divide people along ethnic lines, but given that reliance it still can be used to promote development in the country Kenya. This is because the mass audiences still have faith in the main stream mediaItem Enhancing Youth Interactive Social Lives Through Radio(Institute of Social Communication, 2010) Lasuba, Paul, MemoThere has been a lot of concern about the media influencing the youths in Kenya to the extend that music has become ritual materials for the youths to start and end the daily routines. The media has party contributed to solitude where by the youth gratify themselves in a mediated communication. They have become passive consumers than participants. The researcher would like to point out a few aspects of the whole research strive from its inception. Research through reading books and data analysis gave an understanding that the 51 youth in Kenya are yet faced with challenge of leisure activities. Leisure has become very expensive such that they can not participate in traditional or even what is called modern entertainments due to commercialization. The media on the other hand do not itnest in programs which enable them share their life experiences and talents. Radio is widely used and is one of the tools that can create forum for the youths to express themselves. Through sharing, their idiosyncrasies can be challenged, shaped and basically create for them an environment where they do not feel alienated. Individual social life matters in making life meaningful for him or her self and to others. For no man is an island, at some point in live we need people to talk to not necessarily our friends, or family members since they are not every thing in life in terms of knowledge, skills and talents. It's yet the responsibility of the community to support leisure activities where the youths can actively participate as they share their diverse skills and talents through comedy, drama, songs and dances. The radio should take the role of mobilizing the community by identifying those talents and organize for actual performances.Item Radio, a Medium for Fostering Positive Values Among Youth Negatively Influenced by Rock Music (A Case Study at Park 2 Estate in Langata Area)(Tangaza University College, 2011-08) Mengo, CharlesThis study is Focused on the effects rock and roll music on the project title "Radio as a medium for fostering positive values among the youth negatively influenced by Rock and Roll music that has emerged as one of the popular genres embraced by most youth.
